Sleep
is essential for a well balanced healthy body but often we make several
assumptions about sleep which does not have any scientific basis. These
are the seven myths about sleep due to which we often compromise with your
health.
Myth no. 1 - Daily eight hours sleep
is essential for healthy life.
Fact
- psychiatrist Dr Samir Parikh believes that it is not necessary to
sleep only eight hours a day for healthy life. Everybody's requirements
vary according to their body. Usually every healthy person can take
6 to 9 hours of sleep according to the needs of their body.
Myth no. 2 - The more you sleep the
more relaxed.
Fact
- It is wrong to think that people who sleep more are more relaxed.
Myth no. 3 - there is no harm to
meet a week’s fatigue and sleep at the weekend.
Fact
- if you sleep less during the week and sleep a lot at the
weekends then it is an alarm for your health. Sameer Parekh says in
today’s lifestyle our attitude is affecting the body clock, which
is certainly not good for health.
Myth no. 4 - drinking coffee in the
afternoon has nothing to do with the night's sleep.
Fact - Thinking that, if you take
large amounts of coffee during the day you may have had its effect on your
sleep at night.
Myth no. 5 - Snoring is a sign of good sleep.
Fact - Snoring is not because you are
in deep sleep rather a person snores because of the vibration of the
soft tissue in the nasal cavity or brain is not receiving enough oxygen.
Myth no. 6 - Intake of alcohol promotes sleep.
Fact - Giving the excuse if you
occasionally take more drinks so be aware that alcohol is having a
negative effect on sleep. It has also been reported in several studies that
insomnia is due to alcohol intake.
Myth no. 7 - A small nap in afternoon disturb night's sleep.
Fact-A small nap in afternoon does
not disturb night's sleep but it removes your tiredness, and
you feel refreshed.
